Privacy Policy 

Shopping List + Pantry – iOS App

2. Principle: Local Data Storage

All your data is stored locally on your device (Apple® SwiftData). No personal data is transmitted to our servers or to third parties. The app works fully offline.

The following data is stored locally on your device:

  • Products and pantry items (name, brand, quantity, expiry date, barcode)

  • Shopping lists and store assignments

  • Product images (self-taken photos)

  • Storage locations and categories

  • Product history (purchase statistics)

  • App settings (design, language, notifications, sync settings)

 

3. Internet Connection: Open Food Facts

When scanning a barcode, the EAN number (barcode number) is sent to the Open Food Facts API (openfoodfacts.org) to retrieve product information (name, brand, image).

Open Food Facts is an open, non-profit project. No personal data is transmitted – only the barcode number.

Retrieved product data is cached locally on the device, so no internet connection is required when scanning the same product again.

 

4. Camera Access

The app requires camera access for the following functions:

  • Barcode Scanner: To scan product barcodes

  • Product Photos: To take your own product images

  • QR Code Scanner: To scan invitation codes for family synchronization

No photos or videos are taken without your active initiation. Product photos taken are stored exclusively on your device.

 

5. Photo Library

If you wish to select a product image from your photo library, the app requires access to your photos. This access is only granted with your explicit consent. No photos are uploaded or transmitted without your selection.

 

6. Notifications

The app can remind you weekly about products nearing their expiry date. These notifications are created locally on the device – no push service or server is used. You can disable notifications at any time in the app settings. Day, time, and advance notice period are individually configurable.

 

7. Apple Watch®

The app offers Apple Watch integration via WatchConnectivity. The shopping list is synchronized between iPhone® and Apple Watch. Data remains on your own devices and is not transmitted to third parties.

 

8. Family Synchronization (iCloud® CloudKit)

The app offers optional family synchronization via iCloud (CloudKit). You can enable this feature in the settings.

When family synchronization is enabled, the following data is stored in your private iCloud zone:

  • Pantry items and shopping lists

  • Storage locations and stores

  • Product history

  • Product images (as encrypted data)

Data is stored in a private CloudKit zone in your personal iCloud – not on the app provider's servers. The app provider has no access to your data stored in iCloud.

When you invite family members, an iCloud share is created. Invited persons receive read and write access to the shared zone. The invitation code is provided via an iCloud share URL.

Automatic synchronization occurs at configurable intervals (1, 5, or 10 minutes) and each time the app is opened. You can disable family synchronization at any time and delete all family data from iCloud.

 

9. In-App Purchase (Full Version)

The app offers a free basic version with a limited number of items. The full version is unlocked through a one-time in-app purchase via the App Store®. Payment processing is handled exclusively by Apple – the app provider does not receive any payment data.

 

10. Data Backup (Backup & CSV)

The app offers the following export and import functions:

  • JSON Backup: Export and import of all data (products, shopping list, stores, storage locations, images, settings) as a JSON file

  • CSV Export/Import: Export and import of product data as a CSV file

These files are only created when you actively use the function. The files remain on your device or are shared by you personally.

Through your device's iCloud backup, app data is automatically backed up if you have enabled this in your iOS settings.

 

11. No Advertising, No Tracking

The app contains no advertising, no tracking, no analytics, and no social media integrations. No usage data is collected or shared with third parties.

 

12. Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device (or in your private iCloud when family synchronization is enabled), you have full control at all times. You can:

  • View and edit all data in the app

  • Delete individual products or the entire database

  • Create and restore a complete backup of your data

  • Disable family synchronization at any time

  • Delete all family data from iCloud

  • Uninstall the app (all local data will be deleted)

  • Revoke camera access at any time in iOS settings
